Trauma-Sensitive Practice

The changing landscape of clinical practice that has arisen during the COVID-19 era, requiring occupational therapists to fully integrate their holistic knowledge base and interpersonal skills irrespective of their area of practice. The principles and embodiment of trauma-sensitive practice are foundational and congruent with occupational therapy practice to support clients, colleagues and personal relationships. 

This webinar will highlight trauma-sensitive principles in clinical practice, to support clinicians in deepening their curious and compassionate clinical reasoning. The neurobiology of stress and trauma, as well as its impact on behaviour and well-being, will emphasize the importance of therapeutic relationship as a clinical co-regulatory tool. Clinicians will be left with the reminder that self-care and self-regulation are biological skills that enhance the effectiveness of client service.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic science of the impact of stress and trauma.

  2. Appreciate that we are all doing the best we can with what we have.

  3. Apply strategies that prevent undue stress and co-regulate others as needed.
