4 days with a total of 8 Modules (each Module will be 2 hours, 2 Modules per day w/1 hour break between Modules).

Course Description:

This intensive dive into the development and integration of the vestibular and visual systems offers clinicians the opportunity to understand the impact that their interconnectedness has upon function. Neuroscience guides clinical reasoning and problem solving, offering validation with evidence for our choices of intervention. Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists will have the opportunity to bridge theory to practice through lecture, videotape analysis, small group discussions and lab experience through a virtual learning platform. Although the goal of this course is primarily to support pediatric rehabilitation, the concepts will be applicable across the lifespan. This is an intermediate-level learning experience, and neurodiversity within a wide range of diagnostic categories will be explored.

Course objectives:

  1. The participant will develop a current understanding of the impact of the vestibular system upon posture and movement.

  2. The participant will develop a current understanding of the neuroscientific contributions of the vestibular system upon regulation, emotion, cognition and learning.

  3. The participant will develop a current understanding of the impact of the visual system upon posture and movement.

  4. The participant will develop an understanding of the current science of visual contributions to regulation, emotion, behavior and learning.

  5. Participants will develop assessment skills of vestibular functioning through videotape analysis, labs, breakout room participation.

  6. Participants will be introduced to vestibular-visual strategies that support clients with a range of vestibular-visual challenges, in diverse settings.
