North American Council on Adoptable Children - Adoption and Foster Care Conference
Adoptive, kinship, and foster parents; child welfare professionals; adoptees; foster care alumni; birth parents; and other child advocates—if you have been touched by adoption or foster care, this is the conference for you!
Expert speakers will cover topics including recruitment, kinship care, parenting strategies, race/culture, and more. These 20 sessions are designed to inspire, inform, and encourage the adoption and foster care community. Speakers include Dr. Bruce Perry and Kim Barthel.
Kim’s session is “Becoming a Behavioural Detective”
There is always a reason for the behavior! This presentation will provide an understanding of the integrated neurobiology of sensory processing and emotional/relational problems that result in “challenging behavior.” We’ll use clinical reasoning to look deeper than the surface actions we observe and discuss treatment strategies. Attend up to four days of workshops, connect with other attendees during lunchtime discussions, and reinvigorate your mission to support children and youth!
