Kim Barthel, OTR, is the keynote speaker for the Behaviour Support Conference 2026, a full day bringing together educators, caregivers, and professionals for shared learning around supporting children and youth with complex behaviours. Whether you work in a classroom, a clinical practice, or a family home, this conference is built around a simple idea: behaviour makes more sense — and becomes easier to support — once we understand what's underneath it.
Morning: Keynote with Kim Barthel
The day opens with Kim's keynote exploring regulation, relationships, resilience & behaviour support — how these four threads work together to shape the way children and youth show up in the world, and what that means for the adults supporting them. Drawing on her decades of clinical and international teaching experience, Kim offers a grounded, relational lens on behaviour: less about managing what we see on the surface, and more about understanding the nervous system and relationships underneath it.
A networking session follows, giving attendees a chance to connect with other educators, caregivers, and professionals doing similar work in their own communities.
Midday: Wellness & Connection
Because supporting complex behaviour is demanding work, the conference builds in space to recharge — wellness breakouts designed for practitioner and caregiver wellbeing, followed by a catered lunch.
Afternoon: Practical Strategies
The afternoon shifts into applied learning, with sessions on practical behaviour strategies for real-world settings and approaches specific to FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder). The day closes with an expert panel discussion, offering attendees a chance to ask questions and hear multiple professional perspectives in one conversation.
